Lot 1046: this filly by Perfect Power becomes the young sire's most expensive yearling sold in the ring so far bought by Marquee Bloodstock for 215,000gns, another good pinhook for Aughamore Stud, the filly having been bought as a foal for 58,000gns.
"I saw this filly and just fell in love with her," admits Ramiro Restrepo of Marquee Bloodstock. "Over the course of three days I had my trainer Tim Donworth take a look at her and others, and everyone had great things to say, so it is onwards and upwards!
"They are some really strong judges of horse flesh here and it is a battle and I am happy to get her – after her sale I had some really nice words from Rabbah – they raced the sire and underbid this filly, so makes you feel good that you were buying a strong representative of the sire."
The filly will be trained in France and Restrepo explains, "I have eight fillies racing here in Europe, I love having them here, and they will be with Tim. my owners group is a bunch of Americans. They have been really supportive of me since the Kentucky Derby winner in 2023 [Mage], they have travelled here and experienced the race days here and want to have runners."
When explaining a little more on the attractions of racing in Europe, he adds: "Everyone loves the tradition and race day experience here, we do not have the same thing in the US, we have the Triple Crown, and really just the Derby, and the Travers Festival might get people rolling, but here it could be the big two-year-old races, it could be the Classics, it could be the big, older horse races. You come racing and get fantastic hospitality at the race track, you feel at home.
"In the US, there is a lot of money at the sales, the market is flying, we can go to sales and the action is flowing, but the racetrack experience does not match that here. For all the challenges that there may be here, when owners are invested, and come to the races and watch the training in these beautiful places, you get rewarded and you get the experience. Once you get here and see these things and you are just 'wow'!
"There are also people who are getting involved who are sportspeople and want to be competing on the global stage and want the prestige. In the US, they are doing this on a commercial level, but now with the ability to watch races and technology, and the ease of travel, they can compete and be competitive here, and if lucky enough to have a good horse can compete in races you read about."
He adds, "And there is such a great development of two-year-old races here, the two-year-old programme is phenomenal, you have big races all the way through for Royal Ascot early types, but then there are plans and races for the later sorts, too, real goals for them with big races consistently all the way through for those horses who continue through the summer into the fall.
"At three, once the Classics are over, if you see how they fit in the US they can go over and do amazing – you are getting the best of both worlds."
And while Restrepo has had horses in training in Britain and Ireland, the European country of choice is France – explaining the reasoning behind this approach, he laughs: "Paris is pretty hard to beat!' (20:02)
Lot 1004 : the unraced mare Mesadah (Raven's Pass) has bred three winners from five runners, two of whom have won again since the catalogue was published, and Alex Elliott will be hoping this filly by Mehmas becomes the mare's fourth winning progeny after spending 150,000gns on the Castledillon Stud-offered April 1-born filly.
Mesadah is out of Albisola, winner of the Group 3 Prix de Flore, and she is a half-sister to Johnny Barnes, runner-up in the Criterium International (G1), and to the dam of Meditate, winner of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1), and to the dam of the Group 1-winning brothers Ectot and Most Improved. (17:49)
Lot 970: the chestnut Starspangledbanner filly from Islanmore Stud becomes our new sale topper, sold for 900,000gns and bought by Godolphin. Underbidder was Ed Sackville, Amo Racing also involved in the early exchanges.
Anthony Stroud, standing with David Loder and trainer Charlie Appleby, said: "She is a standout, and an exceptionally good-looking filly. We bought her full-brother Avicenna here last year, and we think very highly of him. He is a good-looking horse, too, though I think she just has the edge – she has been very well-prepared by the farm."
Avicenna, who is in training with Roger Varian, has run twice and won twice, the last time successful in the Listed Flying Scotsman Stakes at Doncaster over 7f.
Nigel Anderton, stud manager, said: "We are over the moon; the hard work and dedication of the team at home, a great team and it is down to their dedication.
"This has been 20 years in the making, in 2005 we bought the grand-dam Potion as a yearling, and she has bred some wonderful stock as has her daughter Love Potion. This filly has been minded since the day she was born and has been beautiful since then, too.
"The full-brother last year made 450,000gns we had 17 vets on him, and we expected in and around the same for the filly, though we did not quite have the same number, but when two lads like what they see up here..."
Of expectations going into the ring, he said: "We never expected that, we thought if we got half of that it would have been a great day's work. I'd like to thank Mr Stroud and the Godolphin team; they obviously think highly of Avicenna.
"I always say the easy part is the preparation, the hard part is getting them sold up in the ring!"
Of the sire, he enthused, "It has been a great summer watching Starspangledbanner's progeny being so successful. We arrived here on Thursday, and then Friday came the big update, Precise scouting up in the Fillies' Mile – she is out of a Galileo mare as this filly is, too." (16:31)
Lot 951: Castletown Stud enjoys a fine result with this filly by Starspangledbanner – the May-born colt fetching 340,000gns
"I love what Starspanglebanner makes; horses with short cannon bones and speed," said the farm's owner Joe Hernon, who is also manager at Coolmore's Castlehyde Stud. "It’s a privilege to be standing Starspangledbanner. He’s had an amazing year and he’s just such a consistent sire. He’s a source of speed, as was Choisir, it’s all coming through from his dad, that sprinting mould and sprinting frame.
"Desmond, my son, bought the mare for €10,000. I thought she’d be way out of our league but she was announced as having a vice. We bought her anyway and she’s been nothing but good to us,:" he said, adding: "It’s been great, I’m just lucky to have a good mare. I was expecting a good price, we’d had a lot of vets so I thought things might go well, but I didn’t think we’d go this high.
"The mare’s back in-foal to Starspangled. He’s been putting it together as he’s gone up in fee and now that he’s getting those better mares he’s just getting better and better. We all saw what happened here on Saturday so you’ll hear a lot of him in the Classics next year."
The "good " mare is Last Gold, dam of three winners from three runners, including Lumiere Rock, winner of the Blandford Stakes (G2) and the Silken Glider Stakes (G3) and placed multiple times in Group races, including three times at Group 1 level. She (15:49)
Lot 936: La Motteraye Consignment has bought a draft of five to sell at the Tattersalls October Sale, three through Book 2, and this filly by Siyouni, bred by Haras Voltaire, has made the journey from Normandy worthwhile selling for 525,000gns.
She was bought by Ross Doyle, who outbid Henry Lascelles and Anthony Stroud, and he said: "She is a lovely filly, the cross is very good, but she is gorgeous physically, has a nice bit of size to her and is probably a backend two-year-old type, a Classic filly for the future. It is a big shout, but I hope that is what she ends up becoming. She goes to Pia Brandt.
"Her Pinatubo half-sister Zalina, who won at Deauville on debut in August, was extremely impressive and, hopefully, will give us a black-type update, and that would be helpful long-term as a breeding prospect if all goes to plan for this filly. "
Of the client, Doyle added: "Our client is Magne Jordanger's Stall Perlen and already has horses with Brandt, has been leading owner in Scandinavia many times, has had horses with Richard Hannon for a time, has been a great client for many years with my father and now myself, and has been very loyal."
Gwen Monneraye of La Motteraye said: "We are very pleased, Haras Voltaire is a great client and did a top job producing this filly. She has a bit of scope and walks well, so we hoped she would be a standout today. She has been the highlight of the trip over and has been very busy here – a lot of people noticed the sister's win in the summer."
Laurent Benoit, manager of Haras Voltaire, which is owned by fashion mogul Thierry Gillier, said: "We have sold quite a few at Tattersalls with Gwen, and sold well here a few years ago when we brought over a Night Of Thunder filly. This has always been a very nice filly, and when Tattersalls came to see her late spring, they really liked her, and we planned then for Book 2.
"Her half-sister was very impressive in her maiden, and everything came together well. We decided to sell here as we have a lot of yearlings to sell each year; it is good to split them up, it is like playing a game of chess."
Motteraye and Voltaire also have Lot 1096 to offer, another filly from the farm by Siyouni, while the consignor is also due to offer a Study Of Man colt (Lot 1326) for Guy Bloodstock Ltd. (15:34)
Lot 923: SackvilleDonald/Charlton go to 210,000gns for this Lope De Vega colt, the first foal out of the Invincible Spirit mare Kindred Spirit and sold by Ballylinch Stud.
It is a really strong dam line with all the mares on the page holders of winning black-type – Kindred Spirit was a Listed winner in Germany, second dam Pontenuovo won the Prix du Cabourg (G3) and was third in the Prix Monry (G1), while third dam Porlezza won the Prix Maurice de Gheest (G1) and won the Prix du Gros-Chene (G2) twice. (14:28)
Lot 914: "Starspangledbanner has had such a good year," said Mimi Wadham after selling this colt by the sire for 180,000gns having bought him as a foal for €65,000. "We spent a bit to buy this colt last year, but we decided last year to concentrate a little more on buying foals by proven sires."
The colt was bought in partnership with Charlotte Greenway of the Nick Luck Podcast.
"Charlotte was looking with me last year as Violet was having a baby," says Wadham. "She has partnered on a few with us before."
The colt is out of the Dynaformer mare Kalaatah, dam of four winners, all her runners to date, including Raaeb, a Group 3 runner-up in the Bujr Nahaar Stakes (G3).
Second dam is the Listed-placed Teeba (Seeking The Gold), grand-dam of the Vosburgh Stakes (G1) winner Takaful, while third dam is Shadayid, a champion two-year-old of 1990 and dam of Bint Shadayid. (14:18)
Lot 894: a fifth yearling by Starman is sold for over 300,000gns at Tattersalls this autumn – trainer Kevin Ryan going to 350,000gns for the colt bred and sold by Tally-Ho Stud.
This colt is out of the Invincible Spirit mare Invincible Me, dam of four winners, including the Greenham Stakes (G3) runner-up Mehmento (Mehmas). The mare was bought by Tally-Ho Stud for 50,000gns at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale 2015, this colt her most expensive yearling sold in the ring so far. (13:20)
Lot 877: Aughamore Stud turns its €120,000 foal investment into a yearling sale of 300,000gns – this colt by New Bay bought by MV Magnier.
"Relief!"said Michael Gleeson when asked to describe his emotion after the sale. "We knew that was a lot of interest, but to make that was beyond expectations. He was a pricey foal, but the sire's stud fee was €75,000 so we had paid accordingly. he came from Pat O'Kelly's great farm and New Bay is a fantastic stallion. We bought him to Book 2 so that he would be a standout."
Bred by Kilcarn Stud, the colt hails from a leading pedigree of champions being out of the Balanchine Stakes (G3) winner I Am Beautiful (Rip Van Winkle), a half-sister to the juvenile champion Rumplestiltskin, the dam of Tapestry, a champion three-year-old.
Third dam is the dual champion and 12-time winner Miesque, dam of Kingmambo. (12:45)
Lot 853: the roll of Thunder continues, with trainer Kevin Ryan spending 550,000gns on this colt, a half-brother to the Grade 2 runner-up Dhabab, by the Darley sire Night Of Thunder, sold by Genesis Green Stud and bred by Thurso Limited.
"I have seen him four times over the last few days, he has a great attitude and is by a great sire," said Ryan. "He never put a foot wrong every time I saw him, even coming up here, he is just a great physical, even as a May foal. I am delighted rto get him, and he is for a client in the yard."
The colt's Mastercraftsman dam Habbat Reeh is a half-sister to the multiple Listed race winner Boomshackerlacker.
This week, Night Of Thunder is currently averaging 300,500gns for 10 sold and a turnover of 3,005,000gns. (12:03)
Lot 848: the first through the ring from this year's Daylesford Stud draft, a Mehmas colt out of Green Queen (Wootton Bassett) is bought by Ballybush Stables for 165,000gns.
Green Queen is a half-sister to the Listed winner Lady Galore, daughters of Spain, a dual Grade 1 winner in the US, and multiple graded race winner and performer. (11:26)
Lot 831: the Baaeed half-brother to Luther, winner of Saratoga's Hall of Fame Stakes (G2), third in the Belmont Derby (G1) and fourth in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains (G1), is bought by Shadwell for 200,000gns.
The colt was bred by Coln Valley Stud, sold by Watership Down Stud, out of the Cityscape mare Give And Take, winner of the Musidora Stakes (G3) from the family of the Irish Derby (G1) winner Fame And Glory. (11:13)
Lot 817: the Kilminfoyle House Stud-bred Lope De Vega colt sells for 160,000gns, bought by Joseph O'Brien. It is a fifth six-figure sale for the farm this autumn.
The colt is out of Freely, a winner in Italy, by Sea The Stars and an own-sister to Call Me Love, winner of the Premio Lydia Tesio (G2). His grand-dam is Field Of Hope, winner of the Prix de la Foret (G1). (10:23)

Lot 805: sells for 200,000gns, becomes the30th horse sold today for that sum and above.
This colt was consigned by Chasemore Farm, is by Saxon Warrior and out of the Invincible Spirit mare Formidable Kitt, a daughter of the farm's Queen Mary Stakes (G2) winner Ceiling Kitty.
Formidable Kitt has had two winners from three runners, with Kitteridge Listed placed in the Pretty Polly Stakes. (20:26)
Lot 771: Amo's trainer Kevin Philippart De Foy was elected to speak by Kia Joorabchian after the purchase of this filly by Starman for a session-topping 525,000gns.
"She is my pick of the sale, from a very good dam line, she is a very easygoing filly, very racy, Starman can do little wrong, he has had winners today," said De Foy, adding: "I was very keen on the filly from the start of the day, she was one of my top three."
"Starman looks like he is getting horses who will go on as three-year-olds, he is getting horses who have a bit of size and scope, hopefully they progress on. He has had a very strong start. It is a very exciting time for us, we have bought some lovely horses with good pedigrees and by good stallions."
The filly was bred by Tally-Ho Stud and is a first foal out of Emirates Empress, who was bought by the farm for 30,000gns here at the December 2022 Sale.
Tony O'Callaghan said: "It is a great return on the mare's purchase, and it is an exceptional trade here for fillies. We are obviously delighted with Starman's progress, they should stay a mile. He has sucha great temperament."
Emirates Empress had a Kodiac colt foal this year and was covered by Cotai Glory. (19:27)
Lot 757: "The Corporation is looking for well-bred and good physicals, and we value them as individuals, and wemet a lot of good company last week," reported Mangan after spending 450,000gns on this Night Of Thunder filly from Plantation Stud.
"This filly is our pick of the entire sale this week, she is what we are looking for, and by Night Of Thunder, who needs no introduction. She goes to William Haggas."
Of maintaining the focus when being a persistent underbidder, she said, "Last week we underbid five, but you need to keep standards and don't settle; buy the horse and the individual, not the market; buy what you want to look at in the spring."
The filly is a half-sister to two winners and out of a Cape Cross half-sister to the Group 3 winner and the Group 1 placed Emerald Commander, from the family of the Racing Post Trophy (G1) winner Commande Collins and Lit De Justice, a champion US sprinter. (18:45)
Lot 741: The Thoroughbred Racing Corporation gets a result and buys this St Mark's Basilica filly for 350,000gns. She is a half-sister to Night Raider (Dark Angel), who finished fourth in this year's Nunthorpe Stakes (G1), and to Far Above, winner of the Palace House Stakes (G3).
“We underbid five fillies last week at Book 1," said Jane Mangan after purchase. "It is very difficult to get the one you want, and we are very happy to get her because the dam’s bred two horses who have been rated over 110, while the first-season sire St Mark's Basilica has produced a Group 1-winning filly; it just made a bit of sense. There is no pressure on the trainer, but she looks a fast two-year-old!"
She added: “We’re trying to assemble fillies to breed from. Hopefully she runs and then we can have her as a broodmare, that’s the aim.”
The filly was bred and sold by Linden Bloodstock and is a great grand-daughter of Bahr, winner of the Ribblesdale Stakes (G2), and three times Group and Grade 1 placed. She is dam of Nahrain, winner of the Prix de l'Opera (G1), and grand-dam of Benbatyl, who was the 2019 European champion miler. (18:04)
Lot 727: this colt by Starman is knocked down to Justin Casse for 360,000gns, soldby breeder Pier House Stud.
"We have bought him in partnership with Amo to go to Joseph O'Brien," said Casse. "The stallion has been good to me and to Josephv – he has had a couple of graded stakes winners, one of whom I bought, as well a filly in France. Hopefully, we can replicate that success; this colt was standout for me today."
Of this colt, he said: "This colt walks a little better than North Coast, who is the one I bought last year; he has some reach and a good step."
And of working with Amo, "We bought two in America with Amo, we are working individually, but if we land on the same one, we might get together."
The February-born colt is out of the Footstepsinthesand mare Deep Impression, a half-sister to Gorongosa, a Grade 2 winner in South Africa. It is the family of Lycius, winner of the Middle Park Stakes and runner-up in the 2,000 Guineas (G1), the July Cup (G1), the Prix Jacques de le Marois (G1) and the Prix de la Salamandre (G1). (17:25)
Lot 719: the Night Of Thunder colt out of the Dick Poole Stakes (G3) winner Dark Lady (Dark Angel) from the long-standing Cheveley Park Stud pedigree of the Group1 winner Peerless is bought by Godolphin for 425,000gns.
"We are thrilled," said Cheveley Park Stud's Chris Richardson. "He is a lovely horse, with a great mind, and always puts his best foot forward.
"Mrs Thompson is a big fan of Night Of Thunder, we have Estrange by him, while last weekend's Dewhurst Stakes winner Gewan is out of a Lethal Force mare, who is a son of Dark Angel. We are lucky enough to be able to send two or three mares each year to the stallion, and it is great when a stallion can row a boat commercially and on the racecourse."
"He’s for Godolphin and will go to Moulton Paddocks,” said Stroud. “He’s bred very similarly to the Dewhurst winner on Saturday. Night Of Thunder has done amazingly well. He’s going to be champion sire and he’s got so many good horses.
“They seem to win over all sorts of distances; they’re very versatile and seem to have excellent temperaments. The progeny from his better books of mares are coming on-stream now so his results are only going to get better and better. It really highlights how important Dubawi is as a sire of sires.” (17:20)
Lot 691: Al Wasmiyah Stud spends 260,000gns on this Round Hill Sud-consigned daughter of Mehmas. She is out of the Lope De Vega mare Countess De Vega, and is a half-sister to Queen Tamara (Space Blues), a winner since the catalogue went to press.
She is from another branch of the stud's leading family of Field of Gold – this filly's grand-dam Pure Symmetry bought by Round Hill in January 2015 for $230,000. She is a daughter of Serena's Song, a sister to Serena's Sister, the great grand-dam of this year's dual Group 1 winner. (16:34)
Lot 674 and Lot 680: both bought by Stroud Coleman Bloodstock – Lot 674, a filly by Oasis Dream and out of Citadelle from Round Hill Stud is purchased for 320,000gns, while Lot 680 is a colt by Night Of Thunder and was sold by Newsells Park Stud
He is out of Coconut Creme (Cape Cross), a half-sister to Sultanina, the dam of Pierre Bonnard (Camelot), the weekend's winner of the Zetland Stakes (G3). (15:57)
Lot 668: first-crop Shadwell sire Minzaal gets the first sale in this year's Book 2 Sale over 450,000gns, the filly sold by Baroda Stud bought by Karl and Kelly Burke
"She is lovely sort, vetted well and I am delighted to get her," said Burke. "We have bought a couple by the sire, and a few months back now Jim Cowley, who used to ride him, said that he was a lovely, laid-back horse and recommended the progeny to us and that we should have a look at them all. I have been impressed by them. She has been bought for an owner in the yard, I did not think that she would get to that amount, it is a lot of money, hopefully she can run!"
The filly was a pinhook purchase by Clunemore Lodge Stud for €85,000, the syndicate banner used by young pinhookers and school friends Fionn White (16), and brothers Jack (17) and Max Galway (13), whose father Richie Galway is racing manager at Punchestown racecourse and is a son-in-law of Jessica Harrington. Unbelievably, it is already the second big result in the sale ring for 16-year-old White – last year he sold a Gleneagles colt for 205,000gns whom he bought as a foal for €35,000.
"It is the stuff of dreams, I can't get around it!" smiled White. "The stallion could not have gone better for a first-crop stallion, she is a nice filly, we bought her off Rochestown Lodge Stud, and we weren't expecting anything like that!
"Hopefully, we will be back for more next year," he added, "but we are back in school tomorrow!"
The filly is closely related to the Mehmas black-type winners Saratoga Special, winner of the Lised Land O'Burns Fillies Stakes, and Turn On The Jets, who has also been Grade 2 placed in the US. (15:48)
Lot 658: this colt by Nathaniel makes 300,000gns and is bought by Stroud Coleman.
The colt is an own-brother to the Listed winner and Group 3-placed Understated, and to Rubia Queen, the 2023-born filly and a winner in France since the catalogue was published. The siblings' grand-dam is the champion two-year-old Bianca Nera.
"He is going to France and into training with Andre Fabre," said Stroud after purchase. "His two-year-old sister won well the other day, he is a very nice horse, bred in France and gets the French premiums, so it is logical to send him to France to be trained. It is a nice current pedigree."
Consignor Julian Dollar of Newsells Park Stud said: "Nathaniel is the sire of nine Group 1 winners and four Classic winners, and this was just a lovely model. The mare has done so well with him already and the two-year-old won very nicely a few days ago, which did not hurt. I had loads of interest in him. He was sold as part of the Al Shahania Stud dispersal." (14:41)
Lot 647: John Foley's Ballyvolane Stud sells this colt for 240,000gns, he is by Starspangledbanner, who has enjoyed a good year andGroup 1 success at the weekend with Precise, winner of the Fillies' Mile (G1).
This colt was a pinhook purchase for 75,000gns here last autumn, was bred by James Wigan and Willmo Bloodstock and is out of the Ribchester mare Canterbury Bell. She is daughter of the black-type performer Lavender Lane and is a half-sister to Lilac Road, winner of the Middleton Stakes (G2) and runner-up in the Prix Vermeille (G1) and third in the Nassau Stakes (G1). (14:05)
Lot 631: the first Kingman colt through the ring this week makes 260,000gns, and is added to the Stroud Coleman Bloodstock purchases.
Bred by Lordship Stud, he was sold by New England Stud and is the first foal out of Bouquet (Dark Angel), the winner of one race as a two-year-old. She is a daughter of the Trigo Stakes (L) winner Bound, an own-sister to the Derby (G1~) winner Serpentine, the Kilboy Estates Stakes (G2) winner Wedding Vow, the Blue Wind Stakes (G3) winner Bye Bye Baby and Beacon Rock, winner of the Gallinule Stakes (G3).
It is the further family of the champion two-year-old Queen's Logic, the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint winner Big Evs, the champion Dylan Thomas and the 1,000 Guineas winner Homecoming Queen and her daughter Shale, a champion two-year-old and winner of the Moyglare Stakes (G1).
Bound's fourth foal Bowmark (2022) is a son of Kingman and has collected Listed-placed form this year in the Burradon Stakes, while Italy, the mare's 2023-born son of Wootton Bassett, has finished third in this year's National Stakes (G1), and also second in both the Superlative Stakes (G2) and the Acomb Stakes (G3). (13:37)
Lot 600: a first Book 2 purchase this week for Amo Racing – the team going to 200,000gns for the Sea The Stars colt out of Baino Hope (Jeremy), sold by The Castlebridge Consignment.
She was a Group 2 winner of the Prix de Pomone (G2) and the Listed Prix Michel Houyvet (L), and is dam of two winners, including Kingmax, winner of the Fort Lauderdale Stakes (G2). (12:57)
Lot 595: is bought by John Foote Bloodstock / Mick Price Racing for 160,000gns, the colt by Harry's Angel sold by Norris Bloodstock, and bred by the trainer Clive Cox.
"It is a very different set of emotion; I did get nervous and a bit tense!" laughed Cox of the experience of being on the breeding and selling side of sale ring transaction.
"I bought the colt's grand-dam Heliograph, and her daughter Autumn Magic was very promising in training but did not get to run as she picked up an injury. She is a good-bodied mare, a beautiful individual, and is clearly now producing good stock.
"Her first foal, this colt's full-sister Harry's Girl, did so well and was Listed placed. Jenny [Norris] has done a wonderful job producing this colt. His dam Autumn Magic boards with her, and it is a real thrill to have bred such a good-looking horse as he is, attractive and got plenty of attention for the buyers. I am thrilled for Harry Angel, and for all at Jenny's for doing such a great job."
Cox, of course, trained Harry's Angel to champion sprint honours with victory in the July Cup (G1) and the Sprint Cup (G1),
"Harry was a joy to train, a very talented horse, and he is producing good runners in both hemispheres," added Cox. "We did a tot up, and at the moment there are six stallions at stud in Europe, as well as Profitable, who is now at stud in Turkey, who were in training with us. It is quite something and we are very proud." (12:44)
Lot 571: after a top October Book 1 week, Night Of Thunder continued his summer run of form on the racecourse – at last week's two-day Newmarket meeting he sired the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes first and third Gewan and Distant Storm, the Group 3 winner Hankelow, the Group 1 Fillies' Mile third Evolutionist, as well as the Darley Stakes (G3) runner-up Gladius.
The sire's form continues early in Book 2 today – this Rabbah Bloodstock-bred colt sold by Genesis Green Stud is bought by Stroud Coleman Bloodstock for 350,000gns.
"He came to us a weanling," said Michael Swinburn of Genesis Green. "He has been a lovely colt, and was never in his box since he has been here, I think he had 70 shows yesterday. I thought he would make a bit, as we had a lot of people asking about him."
The colt is an own-brother to Electric Storm, winner of the Lansdown Stakes (L) and four-time placed in Group races. His grand-dam is the 1,000 Guineas winner Wince, dam of the Yorkshire Stakes (G1) winner and St Leger (G1) runner-up Quiff. (11:45)
Lot 567: "He is for Victorious Racing," said Billy Jackson-Stops after spending 220,000gns on this colt by Blue Point, a half-brother to Chindit, a nine-time winner, four times at Group levle, and sold by Kilminfoyle House Stud.
"Blue Point, we were strong on him last week, he is a very good sire," said Jackson-Stops, racing manager for Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa's Victorious Racing. "This colt will be going to the Crisfords, they have had a lot of success for His Highness previously, and His Highness was particularly keen on this pedigree, Chindit was a cracking racehorse, and it is a top farm to buy from."
Out of Always A Dream (Oasis Dream) from the family of the champion Motivator, this colt was bred by J. C. Bloodstock and Rory Mahon. The now 12-year-old mare purchased at the Tattersalls Autumn Horses In Training Sale 2016 for 16,000gns, and Chindit was her first foal. (11:29)
Lot 549: John Gosden spends 200,000gns on the Ghaiyyath colt out of Affability, bred by A. Stroud and J. Hanly and sold by Ballyhimikin Stud.
Affability is an unraced daughter of Dalakhani and dam of five winners, including the two-time Listed-placed My Lord And Master and Aura Blue, who was third in the Height Of Fashion Stakes (L). (10:51)
Lot 546: becomes our first to six figures this morning, this colt by Phoenix Of Spain is sold by WH Bloodstock for 110,000gns to an online bid from Middleham Park Racing / Roger Varian.
The colt, bred by the Irish National Stud, Phoenix Of Spain's stallion farm, was a €66,000 pinhook. He is a half-brother to Sprit D'Or (Invincible Spirit), the winner of two races at two and placed fourth in the Prix de la Vallee d'Auge (L).
Phoenix Of Spain got his first Group 1 winner this month when the George Scott-trained Caballo De Mar won the Prix du Cadran (G1) at ParisLongchamp. (10:29)

Chairman's statement
“Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale consistently showcases the finest British, Irish, French and German-bred yearlings to a global audience, and this year’s renewal has been no exception. Longview Stud’s Sea The Stars colt out of Crystal Zvezda and Newsells Park Stud’s Frankel colt out of Aljazzi, which realised 3,700,000 guineas and 3,600,000 guineas respectively are the two highest-priced yearlings in the world this year.
“A remarkable 70 lots have sold for 500,000 guineas or more as we have welcomed buyers from throughout the world to Park Paddocks. As ever, the support from the Gulf region has been a feature as has the large number of American buyers who have purchased more than 40 yearlings.
“Last year’s renewal of Europe’s premier yearling sale was widely regarded as one of the more remarkable sales of recent years, bucking the trend of earlier yearling sales that autumn with wide margin increases in all the key metrics. Those results saw the bloodstock market take a significant upturn over the last 12 months and, whilst a drop in average and median were to be expected with the larger catalogue, it has been gratifying to return figures that are second only to last year’s record renewal.
“We now turn our attention to Books 2 and 3 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, which begins on Monday, 13th October.” ()

Lot 525: becomes the 16th seven-figure lot to sell this week, matching the number sold for a million of more in 2024.
It is the the fifth seven-figures lot sold today, and the fifth over the three days for Night Of Thunder.
This chestnut colt is bought by Karl and Kelly Burke, and after purchase the trainer said: "He is a gorgeous colt, I had gone over budget, but luckily I checked my phone and a message to press on had come in from the client."
The colt was sold by Ballyhimikin Stud and is out of the Bated Breath-winning mare Wild Rye, a half-sister to Zambezi Sun, winner of the Grand Prix de Paris (G1) , Kalabar, winner of the Prix Guillaume D'Ornano (G2), and the Prix Petite Etoile (L) winner Zero Gravity, who is the dam of last year's champion three-year-old and Group 1 winner Kalpana.
It is the further family of the Group 1 winner Continent, as well as of the Group 3 and Listed race winners Short Pause and Cheyenne Dream.
Burke added: "He is a gorgeous colt, the Night Of Thunders are going well for me, with Zeus Olympios very exciting and really a horse for next year - the horses by Night Of Thunder do need a bit of time."
Wild Rye was bought by Blandford Bloodstock from the Juddmonte draft at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale in 2019 for 300,000gns. (18:52)
Lot 498: the first foal out of the Le Havre mare Ville De Grace, winner of the Pride Stakes (G3) and placed multiple times at Group race level, is sold for 1,500,000gns. She was consigned by Watership Down Stud for Lordship Stud, the Harris family having purchased the mare as a maiden under its One Agency banner here in 2022 for 2,000,000gns.
Tom Harris said: "My father and I were coming up from the Solario Yard and she was with Jennie Norris and, as we crossed the bridge, we just saw this filly walking, and we both said, 'Wow what is that?' It was love at first sight.
"She was an expensive mare, but she has been a very easy mare to mate, she is a fantastic-looking mare, she is an exceptional mare, she is an unbelievable mover and this is a beautiful first foal. And she has been from day one - we have thought she was a star rigt from the start, and she continued to develop in that way all the way through."
Of thoughts since being on the sale ground, Harris added: "When we came up here, we were looking at the fillies and each evening we'd say to each other, 'Have we seen anything better?' and the answer was always 'No!' We are delighted she has gone to Juddmonte and it is a great start for the mare. She is back in foal to Frankel."
Rebecca Markland, stud groom at Lordship, said of the filly as a first foal out of the mare, "We never had those 'first foal' concerns about this filly, she has always been an eyebrow-raising first foal! The mare is a bit sassy, but in the right way; she knows she is good."
Lordship Stud has worked with Watership Down Stud for a long time, the farm's yearlings going to Watership for their prep in July, and Harris outlined: "We have been consigning with Watership Down for nearly two decades now, it is a long-standing relationship, and last year was the first year we got a million; it was for a Dubawi out of Loving Dream. To do this two years in a row, it is wonderful; it is down to the team there and the team at Lordship. We are really trying to focus on the quality."
"It is a small team at home, just four of us for 15 mares, we can be really intimate with the horses; we take our time with them," added Markland.
Of selling the first foal and being a filly, Harris said: "There was a temptation to keep her, it is always difficult to part with a filly like her, but we paid a lot for the mare and you have to make a commercial decision."
Purchaser Simon Mockridge said: "We went in there with a figure in mind and we’d reached that limit, but the family were happy to have one more go. It’s an outcross family, which is very important to Frankel. She’s a beautiful filly, a great action to her. Let’s hope she’s lucky.” (17:49)
Lot 494: producing the 2024 Group 1 Prix de l'Abbaye homebred winner Makarova has been a racing and bloodstock highlight for Brightwalton Bloodstock, and the farm today sold her Night Of Thunder half-sister for 1,100,000gns, a first seven-figure sale for the farm. She was bought by Henry Lascelles.
Brightwalton's Jeffrey Hobby said: "It is the first millionaire for us and a filly, too, which is cool. We have been very lucky, we have been helped by some great people to get here, Matt Coleman bought the mare for us, the Barton team, the Brightwalton team – they all work hard to get the job done.
"It was a big decision to sell a filly, but we have a lot of fillies from the family and we have some nomination bills to pay and we need to sell some stock. We needed to have a shuffle around and I thought if we were going to sell one, she would be a good one; we would be well paid and it would keep the wheels on the bus.
"Night Of Thunder has been great this year, and we have Midnight Tango, who is out of a half-sister,and by him, too, and she who runs tomorrow in the Group 3."
Consignor Tom Blain of Barton Stud said: "It is amazing for the Hobbys and all the team at Brightwalton. It is emotional. Jeff has built that farm at Brightwalton from a ploughed field to 250 acres with some elite mares and to sell a yearling for a million is quite unbelievable. Everyone on the farm is part of it all, and he has been a huge help to me at Barton, it is a special day.
"This filly is typical of everything out of Vesnina. She is not too big, but she moves well, very strong, looks fast, looks the spite of Makarova. It is an amazing pedigree, every single filly has been bred to some of the best stallions in Europe." (17:26)
Lot 477: Godolphin goes to 1,900,000gns for this Wootton Bassett colt, from Fittocks Stud and bred by Fittocks and Andrew Stone. The mare Time Tunnel, bred by Juddmonte and out of Timepiece, a half-sister to the Group 1 winner Passage Of Time, was bought by the partnership at the December Mares Sale 2019 by Blandford Bloodstock for 260,000gns.
Simon Mockridge was underbidder, the stud manager giving a resigned shake of the head when asked to better 1,900,000gns.
"Wootton Bassett needs no introduction, and this colt is from a very good farm," said Anthony Stroud. "He was liked by our team and Sheikh Mohammed really liked him, and we think he was exceptional. Having Sheikh Mohammed here is so important; words can't really express how remarkable he is and how all of us who work for him feel about him, and so should everyone in this industry. Every year keeps coming here, and it is so vital. He really enjoys it, and we depend on him for his eye."
It is the fifth by the late Wootton Bassett (four colts) bought this week by Godolphin, and the only yearling by the sire purchased by Godolphin for over a million guineas.
Of Wootton Bassett, he said: "He is a huge loss, an unbelievable stallion, he was such a good outcross and it is a huge shame for the European bloodstock industry, it is hard to get stallions of that level, and he has come up from standing for relatively little to where he was at the end."
Fittocks Stud has had three seven-figure sales this week, and Luca Cumani said: "It has been a fantastic week, everything has come together very well, and the Fittocks staff has done an incredible job. We bought the mare and she has produced very good-looking stock."
Fittocks has sold four horses this week for an average price of 1,475,000gns and total sales of 5,900,000gns. The farm is leading the consignors' list by average. (16:45)
Lot 463: BSW/Crow, agent for Go Go Greys, bought this Havana Grey filly from WH Bloodstock and Alvediston Stud for 450,000gns.
The filly is a half-sister to La Rioja, winner of the Dick Poole Stakes (G3), and fourth placed in the Commonwealth Cup (G1). She is also a half-sister to the fam of Liberty Beach, winner of the Group 2 Temple Stakes and third in hr King's Stand Stakes and the Prix de l'Abbaye .
It is the second by the sire bought by the team this week – Lot 138 from Yeomanstown Stud and out of the black-type mare Fairy Dust, also went their way for the same sum of 450,000gns. (16:18)
Lot 460: Swirral Edge has been a fine producer for Redpender Stud – her leading performer Mill Stream was a winner of the Group 1 July Cup, the Duke Of York Stakes (G2) and the Prix de Meautry (G3), while her first foal Asymmetric was a talented juvenile, and won the Richmond Stakes (G2) and was Group 1 third--placed in the Prix Morny (G1).
All of the Hellvelyn mare's foals have also been successful in the sale ring – Asymmetric was a 65,000gns yearling and a 150,000gns Guineas Breeze-Up horse, Mill Stream fetched 350,000gns as an October Book 2 yearling, while Tasalla, who sadly died as a three-year-old, was sold for 390,000gns at the October Book 1 Sale in 2023.
This filly by first-crop sire Minzaal has become the most expensive of the lot – bought by Amo Racing for 550,000gns. She is also the top-priced yearling by Shadwell Stud sire Minzaal. He stands at Derrinstown Stud, and this crop was conceived off a fee of €15,000. (15:45)
Lot 452: the Too Darn Hot colt from Kellsgrange Stud and out of Stella D'Italia (Sea The Stars), the dam of Nightime Dancer, runner-up in this year's Bahrain Trophy (G3), joins the Godolphin purchase list at 600,000gns.
The colt is from a family particularly close to Godolphin connections – his third dam is the Group 2 winner Colorado Dancer, the dam of Dubai Millennium.
So far this week Godolphin has purchased 20 lots for a total spend of 16,850,000gns. (15:18)
Lot 424: Airlie Stud bought three lots to sale this week – Lot 95, a colt by Too Darn Hot out of Dane Street, a half-sister to the Irish champion two-year-old filly Skitter Scatter, Lot 226, a Camelot filly, the second foal out of the Group 2 winner Lavender's Blue (Sea The Stars), and this Sea The Stars filly, who is the third foal out of Skitter Scatter (Scat Daddy).
The first two sold for 1,000,000gns and 320,000gns, while this last lot through the ring was bought by Ed Sackville for 625,000gns.
"He has been bought for TBT Racing and will be trained by Ed Walker," said Sackville, who bid from under the window and standing with Walker and owner Simon Sadler. "TBT is keen to buy into some foundation pedigrees and to have some Classic-type fillies – hopefully, this is what she will become. Breeding will be something of interest as TBT already owns the likes of Qilin Queen, as well as Ombudsman's full-sister, who was bought here last year."
This family has been so active this summer with three updates since the catalogue was published – this filly's juvenile half-sister Splish Splash was placed third on her racing debut in August, the dam's half-sister Skellet picked up a third placing in the Group 3 Atalanta Stakes, while under the third dam Consent won the Prix de Royallieu (G1).
Ombudsman's full-sister has yet to run, but has been named Synchronicity and is in training with Walker. She was a 900,000gns purchase at the October Yearling Sale last year from breeder Ballyhimikin Stud. (14:33)
Lot 419: the Siyouni colt out of Silver Horn (Golden Horn), a half-sister to thr champion three-year-old Nathaniel, the champion two-year-old filly Playful Act, the champion three-year-old filly Great Heavens, as well as five further black-type winners, is bought by Blandford Bloodstock for 600,000gns.
He was sold by Haras D'Etreham, the farm having paid 500,000gns for the mare when she was sold as a two-year-old as part of the Waddesdon Stud dispersal held at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale in 2020. (13:58)
Lot 393: the most expensive yearling sold by Mehmas so far at Tattersalls is the colt out of Sagely, bought at this sale last year by Godolphin for 1,000,000gns. He is now called Wise Approach and last time out won the Tattersalls-sponsored Middle Park Stakes (G1) having finished second in the Prix Morny (G1) in August, won the Rose Bowl Stakes (L) at Newbury in July and finished second in the Norfolk Stakes (G2) at Royal Ascot
His year younger full-sister is sold today for 480,000gns and bought by MV Magnier. She matches her brother feat and becomes the most expensive yearling filly by the Tally-Ho Stud-based sire sold in the Tattersalls sale ring. (13:37)
Lot 389: the Ed's Stud-bred Frankel colt is bought by Godolphin for 600,000gns.
Night Of Thunder has been featuring as one of the sires of this week – here he fulfils the role of broodmare sire, this colt being the first foal out of Rumbles Of Thunder, a Group 3 winner of the Give Thanks Stakes and from the extended family of White Star Line, a three-time US Grade 1 winner.
