Lot 1787:
another by the first-crop National Stud-based sire Stradivarius catches the eye of the buying bench – this filly makes 40,000gns, and is bought by Jamie Osborne Bloodstock and is for sale.
"She is a beautiful filly, the dam has had three rated over 100, has had six winners and ha not missed, has a lovely page," said Osborne. "This wouldn't be the normal type of stallion that I'd buy, but she is a beautiful model, very athletic and the dam did win at two. Let's see!"
Lombatina is by King's Best and her leading progeny is Agrotera, a filly by Mastercraftsman and winner of the Snowdrop Stakes (L).
She is out of Sahel, an own-sister to Schiaparelli, Samum and Salve Regina, from the family of the multiple Group 1 winner Sosie, third-placed in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at the beginning of the month.
(13:56)
Lot 1712:
out of the Group 3 Nell Gwyn Stakes winner and 1,000 Guineas third Daban (Acclamation), this colt by Ardad is bought by Lillingston Bloodstock / Rix Racing for 26,000gns.
Bred by Daban Bloodstock Ltd, the colt, a half-brother to a winner rated 81, was a pinhook purchase by BBA Ireland here last December for 11,000gns.
"She is for my best friend Ollie Rix, who is setting up training in Newmarket," said Dee, the pair at university together. "He is doing his last module this week, but we looked at this filly together this morning and both liked her.
"She is out of a Guineas-placed mare and Nell Gwyn winner, who has had two rated in the 80s and by more staying stallions.
This filly has loads of quality, is really racy, and we both like the stallion - Ardad has a bit more speed than the stallions she has seen and think that is interesting.
"We are just trying to buy horses who might be early for Ollie."
(12:12)
Lot 1716:
Kings Bloodstock spends 25,000gns on the Masar colt out of Deveron (Cozzene), consigned by Houghton Bloodstock.

(11:24)
Lot 1682:
"She is the one we really wanted today," said Francisco Bernal of Outsider Bloodstock after buying this filly by Palace Pier on behalf of his Spanish cllient and owner Jose Maria Maldonado, who races his under the Cuadro Meditteraneo banner.
"She has a good family, and we are looking for a middle-distance prospect. Palace Pier has done well," he said. "This filly will be pre-trained in ireland and then will ship to Spain in January."
The majority of Maldonado's horses are in training in Spain, but he also has horses in training in France with Mauricio Delcher Sanchez.
Bernal chatted to sales day live at the Tattersalls Ireland September Sale after he purchased a daughter of King Of Change for Maldonado, the pair have purchased seven yearlings between here and Fairyhouse.
"Of course, Brexit has an influence, but we were looking to add to the draft with a more middle-distance pedigree, and most of our Irish purchases were more sprint types."

Lot 1665:
The best came today with the very last lot in the ring, this Blue Point colt from leading consignor and stud farm Ballyhimikin Stud makes 165,000gns. He was bred by the farm in association with Skymarc Farm, who bred the mare.
He is out of the Verglas mare Wrong Answer, the winner of two races, including at the Marble Hill Stakes (L). She is dam of seven winners, headed by the Oak Tree Stakes (G3) second Internationalangel.
The mare's juvenile Harlequin Angel (Space Blues) won in August after catalogue publication.
He was bought by MADR Bloodstock.
"He has been bought to go breezing, hopefully we will get him into one of the better sale," said purchaser Rodrigo Goncalves. "He is a lovely big strong horse and is by a sire I like very much.
"Myself and a couple of friends have gathered up a little syndicate to breeze a couple of horses, he was my pick of the day, I left it late to strike but I am happy to get him.
"I had to give it a push, but when you like a horse of that calibre, you have to stretch out a bit more. I am delighted, hopefully in a couple of months' we will be lucky."
He added: "Ballyhimikin produces the best of the best, they seem to do no wrong, the farm's horses do it on the track, too, so am very exited to see what happens."
(21:04)
Lot 1643:
a chestnut son of Stradivarius makes 62,000gns, the colt bought by JS Bloodstock / Andrew Balding from The National Stud.
The colt is out of Ten Thousand Stars (Toronado), the winner of one race as a two-year-old. The colt was bought as a pinhooked foal by Weston Farm for 25,000gns here last December.
Anna Kerr, The National Stud's CEO, said: "We are delighted with how the market has received Stradivarius's first yearlings. What has been really interesting and positive, is that when one comes up to the ring, trainers are coming in, too, and that is what we want to see.
"I think trainers can see Stradivarius in the yearlings, they have so much quality and they can all move.
"They are all going to good yards – John Gosden has bought one, Joseph O'Brien has got two, another is going to Charlie Johnson, they are going to yards where they will get the best of chances."
She laughed: "We are looking forward to paying out his bonuses!"
The stallion has had six yearlings sell at the October Sale, for a turnover of 426,000gns, and an average price of 71,000gns.
The top price of 100,000gns was given by Stroud Coleman in Book 1 for a colt consigned by Ringfort Stud out of Misscall (Lot 271).
(20:25)
Lot 1622:
the Blue Point filly from Ballyhimikin Stud is bought by Julie Camacho for 110,000gns, one of eight yearlings bought by the team at this year's October Yearling Sale.
The filly is out of a winning Oasis Dream mare Song Maker and spokesperson, Matt Camacho, who was bidding from the back stairs, explained the filly's appeal and plans for the future.
"She has been bought for Julie who has been going very well, the ownership undecided, she has probably been bought for a new partnership.
"She walks well, her mother has had two runners who won on debut and she is two from two, and both have looked above average.
"This filly will be treated like a good horse. She is a Blue Point filly on an Oasis Dream cross and from a great breeder. Clearly we would have liked to have paid less, we wanted to take her home, and it is nice to get one from Ballyhimikin. It has been hard to buy."
Second dam Please Sing was a leading two-year-old, winner of the Cherry Hinton Stakes (G2) and a runner-up in the Dick Hern Fillies' Stakes (L).
(19:52)
Lot 1598:
the only colt catalogued in Book 3 by Aclaim makes 35,000gns, and is purchased by the Sarkar Family, bred and sold by Bearstone Stud.
He is out of River Song (Siphon), a black-type performer in the US, and dam of five winners, including Queen Jo Jo, winner of the Summer Stakes (G3).
The pedigree has enjoyed a recent update under the first dam – Romany Gypsy, a daughter of River Song, already dam of a Listed winner, is also now dam of Isle of Fernandez (Lope Y Fernandez (IRE)).
She finished third in Firth of Clyde Stakes (G3) and fourth in the Redcar Two Year Old Trophy (L).
It is the family of thr Queen Anne Stakes (G2) winner Allied Forces, who was also placed third in the Sussex Stakes (G1).
(18:58)
Lot 1571:
the Sioux Nation filly out of the Pivotal mare Porthilly, a four-time winner, whose victories include a Listed race in Germany, is sold for 98,000gns.
She was bred by Mr Oliver Pawle, sold by Baroda, and is a grand-daughter of Racine (Titus Livius), the winner of six races in Germany, twice in Group 3 sprint races. She was also placed ten times, four times at Group race level.
She was bought by Glending Stables, breeze-up consignor of subsequent dual Group 1 winner Vandeek (Havana Grey) at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale 2023.
(17:29)
Lot 1535:
the Nathaniel filly out of Nancy O (Pivotal) is bought by Alex Elliott for 150,000gns from Jamie Railton, who was selling on behalf of Drumroy.
Nancy O was a winner at three in Canada and placed in the third in the Natalma Stakes (G2) and is dam of Zechariah, winner of the Geoffrey Freer Stakes (G3), runner-up in the Queen;'s Vase (G2) and placed at Listed level.
Second dam is Arraville (Arch), who won the Del Mar Oaks (G1), the E P Taylor Stakes (G1) and the Natalma Stakes (G3).
“She had a place in Book 2, but the owner was keen to stand out here and he was right," said Railton, adding: "She is a lovely filly. It is nice to be involved with this type of horse. I think it’s been fantastic to see the appetite, lovely to see it follow on to Book 3. It’s important that we have buyers at every level, not just at the top, the pyramid only works if there’s a solid base to it.”
Elliott said: "I have half bought her on spec, I am putting a partnership together and a few people have already spoken to me, and someone stopped me in the chute to see if I had sold her, so it is all kinda fluid at the moment, she is gorgeous and a good one to get.
"I have had some luck with Nathaniel fillies, obviously You Got To Me. This is very strong, she is out of a Pivotal mare, who is a great broodmare sire, and is a sister to a Group 3 winner.
"Even if she only gets a little bit of black-type, she will be worth a lot of money – her march around the back was very special and I am very pleased to have her."
Of the market at this year's October Yearling Sale, he said: "I have found it easier than last year, there wasn't the mania of last year, Kia is obviously very strong and buying a lot of horses, and because it is not so manic Anthony sees more value in the market and is prepared to step in ant that stage, looking to trade and buy at the right price.
"It has been good for me, I have bought a lot of yearlings; between Amo and other clients, I have bought around 50 over the two weeks."
(16:28)
Lot 1497:
the Pinatubo January-born filly out of the seven-time winner and US Listed-placed Lady Oak (Arcano) is added to the Richard Hughes purchases, the filly bought for 52,000gns.
Hughes has bought five yearlings through this year's October Yearling Sale, one in Book 1 (Lot 376), three in Book 2 (Lot 869, Lot 776, Lot 738) and today's Book 3 purchase.
(16:20)
Lot 1487:
by the late sire Calyx, this colt is bought by trainer Sean Quinn with agent Richard Knight from Lynn Lodge Stud for 65,000gns.
The colt first foal out of the Australia mare Kinrarra, a daughter of the Listed winner and Group 3-placed Miss Laher (Clodovil) , a half-sister to Lady Lahar (Fraam), winner of two Group 3 races and Group 2 placed. She is dam of the Group 1-placed Jallota.
(15:02)
Lot 1473:
another by Havana Grey makes six figures – this filly bought by Yeomanstown Stud as a breeze-up prospect for 130,000gns.
“Hopefully she’ll come back here in April for the Craven," said Roger O'Callaghan. "She is a lovely filly with great quality and a great mover.
"We looked at a handful of horses today – her and the other Havana Grey from Whitsbury who made 160,000gns were the two picks.
"We tried hard on him and thankfully we were able to get this one. Fingers crossed she’ll be fast, the brother was fast – he won the Palace Of Holyrood at Royal Ascot. It’s a good fast family going back."
Ed Harper of Whitsbury Manor said: "We make sure we put Book 2 horses in Book 3, we are not trying to do anything clever, we are just ensuring we spread out the stallions and Havana Grey is very hot.
"We can't sell them all in Book 2, and if we get a reputation for selling good yearlings in Book 3, people are going to stay for Book 3. Not only are we helping ourselves and our stallions, but we are helping British breeders, because it is sale with a higher percentage of British breeders – we need to give the best buyers a staying for Book 3 and they are, it is working and it is great.
"I don't whether it is fluke or happenstance, but Havana Grey over a Sakhee's Secret mare is an amazing cross – there is five of runners rated over 100 from only about eight runners, as well as four stakes winners.
"The colt was impressive for his age [April 28th], and the filly was born the day after.
"She is a full-sister to Pilgrim, a Royal Ascot winner who won the Palace Of Holyrood for David Baron. She is lovely, was a late foal, there will bags of improvement, which I think people spotted – I think when you bring a full-sister to a Royal Ascot winner to Book 3, people are going to have a look.
"Both mares we raced with Hot To Trot, Hot Secret was the first filly we had with them, she won a couple of races for Andrew Balding. It is great to lease them to the group, win with them, then they come back to the broodmare band, everyone is a winner."
Of the stallion, he said: "Havana Grey is phenomenal, and both those two had amazing sales temperaments, I always get nervous when you have a busy horse before it goes into the ring, but they were pulled out however many times, and they did not bat an eye.
"The Havana Greys seem to thrive on hard work whether it is at a sale, at a breeze-up, or in training. When they first get to a sale, and the first half day they are not doing anything, is the day they don't like, then come the day of showing they thrive."
(14:19)
Lot 1452:
the first offered in Book 3 by the Flying Childers Stakes (G2) winner Caturra makes 50,000gns, bought by Sean Grassick Bloodstock.
The colt, pinhooked by Glencoole Stud for 28,000gns and sold today by Rathbarry Stud, is out of the Listed Radley Stakes placed Fourth Way (Iffraaj)
(13:33)
Lot 1436:
New Approach Bloodstock goes to 65,000gns for the Palace Pier colt, the second foal out of the Night Of Thunder mare Far Hope, the winner of two races as a three-year-old.
She is daughter of Masarah (Cape Cross), the winner of two races at two and three, and third in the Listed Fleur De Lys Stakes (L).
The colt was bred by Rabbah Bloodstock, and sold by Barton Stud.
Palace Pier is the sire of eight winners, headlined by the Lowther Stakes (G2) winner Royal Fixation, who is out of a Kodiac mare, and his Group 3 winner A Bit Of Spirit, winner of the Solario Stakes and out of a mare by Dubawi.
(12:41)
Lot 1402:
"He has been bought in partnership between Amo Racing / Valmont," said Alex Elliott after bidding 160,000gns on this colt by Havana Grey and out of Cross My Heart (Sakhee's Secret).
"I thought he is the nicest horse here today, he goes to David Simcock, who trained Dream Ahead to sprint honours. Hopefully the colt will be a bit of fun for everyone – Valmont won the Book 3 sales race this year with Jel Pepper, this lad might do the same.
"David begged us for a faster horse, we always like to send him the slower one and he says he slows them down enough! Listen, he trained Dream Ahead who was a top sprinter so he can do the job if the horse is good enough. I bought a sibling before, he was quite talented and Havana Grey is Havana Grey."
Of buying for Valmont and Amo Racing, Elliott outlined: "We bought a couple together, generally they fall into different brackets, which is useful for me. Anthony buys a slower-maturing, later developing type, more backward horse in the trading bracket, and Kia, even though he is trying to buy more Classic types, it is a level above in terms of the price brackets. Luckily, they are good friends, they get on very well, so that makes it easier for me."
The colt, bred and sold by Whitsbury Manor Stud, is a half-sister to Adaay To Remember, runner-up in the Summer Stakes (G3) at York ad third in the Listed Boadicea Stakes.
Dam is a half-sister to Stepper Point, the winner of 10 races, including the Sapphire Stakes (G2) and the Flying Five Stakes (G3).
(11:51)
Lot 1396:
from Norelands, the first of a draft of five in Book 3, this colt by Blue Point is bought by Alex Elliott and A C Elliott, Agent / JS Bloodstock for 110,000gns.
He is the second foal out of Coeur d'Amour, who was a runner-up in the Silken Glider Stakes, and is a half-sister to the dam of Oscula, a multiple Group 3 winner.
"He has been bought in partnership with Billy Jackson-Stops for Valmont and Michael Blencowe to go to Harry Charlton. We have bought five yearlings this year– one for George Scott, one for Andrew Balding, one for Ralph Beckett, one for Richard Hannon, and now one for Harry Charlton.
"It is a partnership we started a couple of years ago, the first horse bought was Westacre, and we have a nice filly called Forty years On, both with Scott, and we won a Listed race with a Kingman filly called Breckenbrough, she is two for two with Mario Baratti in France. We bought her in the Guineas Sale.
"It is a fun thing with some trainers who are friends. The idea is to own horses are enjoyment, but you always want to buy horses who have a bit of f juice to trade, you have to look at that angle, that is what we always do. Good horses first and then if they are good you can trade."
(11:45)
Lot 1386:
Anthony Stroud is still at Park Paddocks and goes to 100,000gns for this Starspangledbanner colt, a €27,000 pinhook for the Donworth family of Torard House Stud.
"I have bought him for Alison Swinburn, and we have been looking for a horse for her from last week, and delighted to get this colt," said Stroud. "I have bought from the Donworths before and they have done well, it was a clever pinhook by them, and they are very nice people.
"I think he is a bit of a standout for me today, he has got size and scope and is a very good mover.
"Alison still has Audarya, and has a Dubawi in training, and she is in-foal to Night Of Thunder. Alison is a lovely owner and person, and I am lucky to buy horses for her, she is a wonderful person."
Breda Donworth, speaking for the Donworth family, said: "We are over the moon, we knew we had a nice horse, but when it happens it is amazing. We have seven Flat yearlings, the horses go out for two hours everyday. This lad was a quiet, genuine horse, he took everything so well. It is a lovely return."
(11:42)
Lot 1356:
Jeremy Brummitt goes to 90,000gns for the Study Of Man colt from Staffordstown. The March-born foal is out of the six-time winner Altra Vita, an Animal Kingdom grand-daughter of Allouette.
"He is an exceptionally well-balanced horse, which I don't think is typical of many horses, but is typical of very good horses," said Brummitt. "He is by a stallion who is probably still emerging and I don't think I could find a horse as well-balanced as this horse is.
"The dam was obviously tough and most important, this colt has been bred by someone who tries to breed racehorses for the racecourse and not sales horse for the sale ring – you can see that by looking at the pedigree and how many winners are in it.
"Altra Vita was rated in the 80s, but she won those six races on firm ground and heavy ground, and I am reliably informed by her handler that she was trained by a master [Sir Mark Prescott]
"You have to pay for a horse you like, it is no use buying one you don't like – it is a long time when you buy a horse you don't like.
"He is for Vantum Leap and we have not yet decided on a trainer; if they have got any sense they will be queuing up to see if they can train him – put that in!"

Offered by Marlhill House Stud, bred by Rockhart Trading Ltd, the March-born bay colt is out of the winning mare Tissiak (Fastnet Rock), dam of one winner, and a half-sister to an Australian Grade 2 winner, European Group 3 winner and a Listed and Group placed, winning two-year-old in Ireland.

(19:40)
Lot 1288:
the Camelot colt out of the Clodovil mare Tigrilla makes 475,000gns and is bought by A C Elliott, Agent / MV Magnier / White Birch.
"He is by Camelot and out of a black-type mare who has produced a good horse by Twilight Son, this colt was very well bought by Nick Cope and the boys, and the team was very determined to get him," said Alex Elliott.
"A lot of the Camelots are real staying types to look at, but I think this mare might speed him up; you could be looking at anything from 7f as a two-year-old and then as an older horse to a mile plus, we all liked the idea that she would put in speed."
Pinhooker Nick Cope said: "Myself and Tom and Davy Brickley of Ard Erin Stud buy a few foals together, and sometimes we unearth a couple of nice ones on the way. But his horse was more than that – he is a real deal of a horse, a gentleman, he did not put in a bad show here and when you do that you can't ask for much more. He vetted real clean and he scoped well, he has a great attitude and is an unbelievably athletic, good moving horse – all the cliches!"
Of the process of getting buyers and the viewing process, he said: "We had some massive shows this morning, we were then getting second looks and then getting the vets, and its just blows up like that. When it all works, it is amazing what can happen in this ring.
"Five lots before, we were looking and saw a few people who were around the barn earlier, and then everyone you were hoping to follow in were there, too, and then the bids started flying."
Of the pinhooking process he said: "Camelot had an amazing year last year, Bluestocking won the Arc and you had big sales for him in Book 1 last year, it was very easy to say that we wanted a Camelot foal, but to get the foal was difficult.
"We bought this guy off Baroda and as soon as we saw him we liked him, then you hope he is in range and when he fell our way, we had to have him.
"It was at the top of our budget. We gave a lot of money before on a foal and got stung on him and we just thought what on earth were were we doing spending that sort of money. We reassessed then, brought it back down to earth and planned to buy a Book 2 horse, with a pedigree or physical, and who might become a Book 1 type if there is an update. We landed on selling in Book 2 for this lad as we wanted to standout, thank god it has worked."
He concluded: "Tom and Davy have their own farm and are busy, I manage Stanley Lodge, we all have day jobs, but we will be back for the foal sales, fingers crossed we can go again."

Lot 1272:
another good sale for leading first-season sire Starman – this colt from Gerrardstown House Stud becomes the Tally-Ho Stud stallion's most expensive colt sold at Tattersalls so far when fetching 400,000gns and purchased by Amo Racing.
"He was Robson Aguiar's favourite since the weekend, he knew the horse beforehand and he knows these type of horse and made sense to buy him," said Kevin Philippart de Foy.
The colt is out of the winner Tammy Wynette (Tamayuz), the dam of Letherfly, placed third in the Sweet Mimosa Stakes (L), and from the family of the champion two-year-old Toormore.
Gerrardstown Stud's Donie Fahey said of his feelings when the colt was selling, “It was kind a bit of everything – you are exciting, nervous, apprehensive, you are scared - thankfully it all worked out well.
"He has been a very easy horse to deal with from birth, we have loved him from the start, I am just glad that someone else loved him too. You have you evaluation from home, and you hope you are right, but I think we actually under-valued him. You have to be realistic, the market is tough, and you don’t know what is going to happen when the horse goes in there, we can only control the controllables. And when the horse is in the ring, it is out of our control.
Of buying the mare, he recalled: "We were lucky enough to buy the mare as a yearling from Jimmy Murphy of Redpedner Stud and we raced her, and she was part of the first crop of yearling fillies we bought to turn into mares.
It is a full circle, and it is so nice to get it right from the start.
Of the plan to use Starman, he said: "She was a very fast mare, she won over 5f, he was a very fast racehorse, it made sense to us. When you are picking a stallion, who is yet to have runners, you are hoping is going to be champion first-season sire, but I don’t think anyone could foresee what Starman is doing as a stallion, he is doing some absolutely astronomical stuff, and we are lucky to have got it right. Sometimes luck overrides judgement and maybe that is what happened to us.
And of this sale, "It is huge for us, a sale like this is massive for us, we had our biggest result a few weeks ago, but this sale has left that well behind. I am so lucky I have some great people working with me, we are a family-run farm, we are all involved, and it is very nice to get it right.
"I told Kia that we will be watching him as if he is our own and I hope he turns out to be their next stallion!"

Lot 1257:
the Zarak first foal out of Surfeit (Frankel) makes 300,000gns, and is bought by Stroud Coleman Bloodstock.
The colt was sold by Whatton Manor Stud, and Ed Player said: "Richard Brown bought us the mare here in 2022, and we were really excited to have a lovely Juddmonte family.
"We bought the mare as a filly, we sent her to France for her first cover and to Zarak as we wanted to get her off to a good start .
"We have been massive fans of Zarak, his stats are off the charts, and we were lucky enough to get a nice foal. He has progressed all the way along, and he has been one of those we have loved the whole time.
"This colt has been a lovely relaxed sort here, showed himself off well and has been very popular. He had a lot of vets, a lot of good judges liked him. Anthony bought him and he is going to Andre Fabre's."
Player added: "The guys on the farm put in such a lot of hard work, and so many things are out of your control, so I am especially pleased for them to get a good result. The guys who work for us at the sales, too, they do an amazing job, and just very happy for them as well. "
Surfeit is a half-sister to the Group 3 winner Delaware and the Listed winner Environs, and is out of a half-sister to the four-time US Grade 1 winner Proviso, and to Byword, who was a champion older horse in France in 2010 and the winner of the Prince Of Wales's Stakes (G1).

Lot 1213:
Richard Knight for Salhia Stud spends 325,000gns on the Tally-Ho Stud-consigned colt by Too Darn Hot.
He is a first foal out of Silk Romance (Shamardal), the winner of a race as a two-year-old, a daughter of Lyric Of Light (Street Cry), winner of the Fillies' Mile (G1), and a grand-daughter of Suez, winner of the Dick Poole Stakes (L) and runner-up in the Cheveley Park Stakes (G1).
"He is a nice, very strong colt, comes from a good farm, by a very good stallion, and the mare was sent by Tally-Ho to be covered in the UK," said Knight. "He looked a hard-knocking colt, and we targeted three colts, and decided to buy one and this is it. We were at the end of the budget, but we are pleased to get him."
(15:54)
Lot 1211:
the Camelot colt sold by Jamie Railton makes 280,000gns, bought by SackvilleDonald.
The colt, bred by Ben Sangster, is the first foal out of the Muhaarar mare Silent Prayer, the winner of one race at three, a daughter of the Listed winner Rose Bonheur and a half-sister to the Group 3 winner Nayef Road and the Listed winner Celestial Orbit.
Third dam is Red Feather, a Group 3 winner and runner-up in the Moyglare Stud Stakes (G1).
"He was a €160,000 foal, he was an awfully good-moving horse, it seemed like a bold move, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't," said Railton. "Peter [Molony] and his team at Rathmore did a great job, and he as been there the whole time since purchase, and it is a great place for producing bone and raising a young horse, Peter and I do lots of stuff together and it is a good relationship,"
(15:47)
Lot 1164:
the Sioux Nation out of Salve Stella is bought by the Hong Kong Jockey Club for 280,000gns.
Stuart Boman, who bid from his usual spot sat at the the top of the stairs, said: "He is a gorgeous horse, he has loads of quality. He is out of a Shamardal mare with a really good German family behind him, and there is a lot of refinement and class to him, love that about him and he is a great moving horse.
"Kilminfoyle presented him beautifully, the team is great at getting the results in the sale ring but also on the racetrack.
"The horse vetted cleanly, which is an important part of the process, we stretched but we wanted to buy."
The german family stretched back to Salve regina, a German champion three-year-old filly and winner of the Deutsches Derby, and further back to the Group 1 winners Schiparelli, Samum and Sea The Moon.
(14:23)
Lot 1149:
when asked of a plan for this Sioux Nation colt, purchaser Conor Quirke laughed: "We'll just go and win the Molecomb Stakes with him! Simple as that!"
He added: "This colt looks very fast, comes from a lovely family, the breeder is exceptional. For me some of the Sioux Nations have a bit of length and stretch to 7f and a mile, but this colt just looks like he will be fast and is from a fast family.
"We will put him into the system and he probably goes to Mick Appleby for RP Racing."
The team has, of course, have won the Molecomb Stakes twice before with Tattersalls graduates Big Evs (2023) and Big Mojo (2024).
Bred and sold by McCracken Farms, the colt is out of the Cityscape mare Roseau City, the dam of three winners. She is a daughter of Dominica, winner of the King's Stand Stakes (G2), and the Cornwallis Stakes (G3). Third dam is the St Hugh's Stakes (L) winner and Temple Stakes (G2) runner-up Dominio.
(13:02)
Lot 1138:
“She’s a lovely, athletic filly with a great temperament," said trainer Kevin Ryan after going to 400,000gns for the Manister House Stud-offered filly. "I haven’t had many by Starspangledbanner – they’re hard to find but I’m delighted to get her. She looks a very racy filly and hopefully she turns out that way.”
The filly is out of the Dick Hern Fillies Stakes (L) runner-up Tamayuz mare Reyaadeh, the dam of four winners from four runners, including the Listed third Tamreer. It is the further family of the dual Group 1 winner and 2000's European champion older miler Muhtathir.
(12:42)
Lot 1124:
bred by Lady Riblat and Stanley House Stud, the Night Of Thunder colt makes 800,000gns, bought by trainer George Boughey, who was standing by the partition. He outbid Anthony Stroud.
Boughey trains Bow Echo, a two-year-old colt by the sire and winner of the Royal Lodge Stakes (G2) and with hopes for 2000 Guineas glory in 2026.
"We had some stiff competition, he has been bought for Sheikh Mohammed Obaid, he looks very similar to Bow Echo – Sheikh Obaid picked him out, obviously we are delighted to train him," said Boughey, who added: "The colt is from a good family, the mare was a Listed winner. He looks like he will be one for next summer onwards, Sheikh Obaid is a patient owner and hopefully this colt can emulate what Bow Echo did."
He continued: "We have had three or four by the sire, they have all won their maidens, but Bow Echo is the first with us to go on and look like a better horse."
And of bidding once the 500,000gns mark was topped Boughey said: "I had to pick the phone up twice to the Sheikh, and we were well over, but he wanted the horse, and it is great to have the horse in the barn."
The colt is the first foal out of Quenelle D'Or, a daughter of Golden Horn and from the family of Ouija Board.
Consignor Peter Stanley said: "For a first foal to fetch that sort of price, it is magnificent, it is really thrilling, but Night Of Thunder is an incredible stallion, he is upgrading his mares to an extraordinary level and we are lucky we have taken the punt and used him. We used him a few times and it is paying off.
"I thought this would be one of the nicest horses in the ring this week, and I said to my brother than this horse could make any amount of money – you start at a level and you need two people to lock horns and we were lucky that two great judges were there and did just that. I do think he will be a racehorse – he has it all, he has class and he has a lovely outlook, we have been excited about him for a long time."
Of watching Night Of Thunder's progress this season, he added: "It has warmed the cockles of my heart, with five of them to sell it has been very pleasing.
"I don't think Lady Riblat has had a broodmare before, my brother [Lord Derby] raced Quenelle D'Or with John and Lady Riblat. They had a lot of fun, so I said to them at the end of the 'why would you want to sell her?'
"So we played the breeding game – John had heard that you always loose money breeding horses, I had him on the phone during the bidding and he was enjoyed every minute.
"Next time around might be very different!"
(12:14)
Lot 1107:
this Night Of Thunder filly sells for 700,000gns, bought by Henry Lascelles from Ballyhimikin Stud, breeder of Ombudsman, this year's star colt for the stallion.
Jack Hanly was given the role of spokesperson for the farm, and he said: "Night Of Thunder has been a revelation, it is has been fantastic for us, we have been so lucky to have been involved in the stallion. We have been strong supporters of him for a long time.
"This filly had a lot of vets on her, there was a lot of chat and a lot of interest. She has been a queen here in the ring and in the yard, she has been perfect. We are very happy we were expecting a good result, but that is a huge result.
The mare Princesse de Saba (Dariyan) was bought for €87,000 in 2021 as a maiden mare and with Group 3-placed form from a third placing in the Prix du Bois.
"The mare has done us proud, her first foal by Mehmas was really nice, he has gone to Australia and won't be appearing until next year. She is a very nice, attractive-looking mare and you have to buy them n the physical as well and hopefully that will be continued to their stock. We loved her from the very beginning.
"We have had a great sale here over the two weeks. We had a great crop of yearlings, hopefully they will carry on and do well, the most important thing is their performance on the track."
Princesse De Sabo's Mehmas first foal fetched 270,000gns here last year, bought by John Foote. This spring she had a colt foal by Havana Grey and was covered this year by Blue Point.
Hanly is heading to Ascot on Saturday, looking forward to seeing the battle between Ombudsman and Delacroix in the Group 1 Champions Stakes.
"It is the race of the year, it is going to be some shoot out!" enthused Hanly.
The link with Ballyhimikin stretched further to the buyer, as Lascelles said: "I was working at the farm and prepped a yearling draft that included Ombudsman and Estrange, and have had a great year on the track.
"We loved the filly, she is going to be a two-year-old, and he is out of a fast dam who was Group placed at two."
Night Of Thunder has had 14 lots sell in Book 2 for an average price of 291,786gns.
(11:46)
Lot 1100:
is a Shadwell Stud purchase, Angus Gold going to 260,000gns for this colt by Minzaal out of Premiere Danseuse (Gold Away) and sold by Pier House Stud.
"I thought we had him at 150,000gns!" laughed Gold. "Obviously, like everyone we have been very impressed with what we have seen of the Minzaals. We have got three homebreds at home by him, two fillies and a colt, all of them nice, we have bought a nice filly, and I said it would be good if we could get another colt.
"The stallion does not need us to support him at this stage, they are very good-looking and they seem to have great minds, it is rare you go around a sale and hear such strong support from one sire, but everyone has been saying that they have all seen a nice Minzaal.
"He has a great mind and is good looking, he seems to be passing that on, and he was very tough, too.
"The mare has bred a genuine Group 3 filly and hopefully she can do it with this colt again. He will go back to the stud and will be allocated later."
(11:23)
Lot 1088:
the Dark Angel out of Playback (Recorder) and sold by Yeomanstown Stud is bought by Ace Stud for 180,000gns.
The colt is a first foal and Playback is a half-sister to Tactical, winner of the July Stakes (G2) and Royal Ascot's Listed Windsor Castle Stakes, and to Works Of Art, runner-up in the Listed Redcar Two Year Old Trophy, the family bred by Queen Elizabeth II.
Playback was bought at the December Mares Sale in 2022 for 50,000gns from The Royal Studs.
(10:41)
Lot 1082:
is a third six-figure sale for Finbar Kent at this year's October Yearling Sale, the Minzaal colt sold for 110,000gns to SackvilleDonald. The colt was purchased as a foal for 32,000gns by DH BS at the December Foal Sale, bred by Rathbride Farm.
The May 1st-born colt is out of Peticoatgovernment (Holy Roman Emperor) the winner of five races and Listed placed third in the Belgrave Stakes. She is the dam of one winner from one runner, Government Call, the winner of two races as a juvenile.
Peticoatgovernment is a half-sister to Larchmont Lad, winner of the Minstrel Stakes (G2) and the Somerville Tattersalls Stakes (G3) and placed in 13 races, nine times in black-type events.
Yearlings by first-crop sire Minzaal are averaging 109,808gns at this week's Book 2 Sale.
