"We had a bit of luck with a pinhook, we like Fastnet Rock and she is for Too Darn Hot," said Gordon Watson buying the mare on behalf of Watership Down Stud.
The bit of luck came courtesy of Rocana's son Echala - he was bought by Charlie Gordon Watson Bloodstock / Watership Down for 150,000gns here at the 2022 December Foal Sale, sold as a yearling at the October Book 1 Sale for 300,000gns. The colt is in training with Jane Chapple Hyam for Peter Harris, has run three times, finished third twice and is rated 85.

(20:30)
Lot 1470:
Unbreak My Heart is bought by MV Magnier from Whitsbury Manor Stud, the Showcasing three-year-old filly bred by the Harper's family farm.
MV Magnier said: "It's a family we know very well as we have her Group 2-winning half-sister Heartache, who has produced Salt Lake City and Exactly for us. Exactly is an exciting two-year-old by Frankel who has been third in a couple of Group 1s this season and we are excited about her for next year.
"In fairness to Ed Harper and his father they have been very good breeders for a long time now and this is a great family that has produced black-type horses in every generation. She will go to either City Of Troy or Auguste Rodin."
Unbreak My Heart, trained by Clive Cox, finished third as a juvenile in the 5f Beacon Stakes (G3). She is out of the Group 3-placed Place In My Heart (Compton Place) and it is a long-term Whitsbury Manor Stud nurtured family.
(20:07)
Lot 1466:
Caught U Looking sells 1,800,000gns, the Harzand filly bought by an online bid from Willingham.
The bidding opened up at 200,000gns, and sped through to seven figures, Federico Barberini taking the million bid, others involved included Kia Joorabchian and, most persistently, Will Walden who was sat beside John Sykes. They took the online bidder to 1,700,000gns, but had no answer to the final winning bid.
Caught U Looking was consigned by Tally-Ho Stud, Tony O'Callaghan of the farm, a part-owner of the filly alongside Sabina Kelly, wife of breeder Peter Kelly of Kelly Equine Services.
"I bred her and I always wanted to stay in her, Noel Meade wanted to buy her and so when he bought her I stayed in for a half," said Kelly. "Tony was then interested in her and so he bought in, I was so chuffed that he wanted part of a horse I had bred. He has been a wonderful partner the whole way."
He added: "Coming here, I knew she was going to go better than I had hoped as she had 12 or 13 vets, and the right people were on her."
Sabina Kelly was full of emotion as she came out of the sale ring, and said: "Oh my gosh! It was incredible, she has always been a pet, we have always loved her. I am in shock, it is amazing! We weren't expecting that. She is a superb filly, and it is sad to see her go, but she has been brilliant and we have had a great season."
Purchaser Vin Cox of Willingham said: "She has been bought to race on, we want to do a Via Sistina [bought at this sale last year for 2,700,000gns] with her. Bids were coming from all corners of the auditorium, which is great as you want to see competition, you hate to be the only one out there.
"She made around where we thought we might end up. She is well-performed filly, she has a pretty good profile to race on. We will send her to Australia, and take a path similar to Via Sistina.
"We are not suggested that she could turn into the same sort of horse, we'd love her to, but you need to keep the feet on the ground and hope she can win some nice races. It is no secret that staying horses from this part of the world can perform exceptionally well in Australia, and she has already performed well.
"We have not got any plans as yet, we will sit on that for a little while yet. James Ferguson did a great job with Via Sistina last year so we will probably send her to James and he can look after her for the short term and then we will put her on a plane."
By Harzand, Caught U Looking won her last start on October 13, the Listed Bluebell Stakes, having won the Group 3 Weld Park Stakes as a juvenile. She won three races in total and was BHA rated 104. She has won over £116,000 in prize-money, and finished fifth in the Oaks (G1) and the Irish Oaks (G1), and sixth in the Fillies' Mile (G1).
The three-year-old is out of the Mastercraftsman mare Wild Mix, a half-sister to Double Or Bubble (Exceed And Excel), winner of the Group 3 Supreme Stakes, and Mix And Mingle (Exceed And Excel), winner of the Chartwell Fillies Stakes (G3).
Wild Mix was bought by Emerald Bloodstock as a three-year-old at the Tattersalls Autumn Horses In Training Sale for 7,000gns. Caught U Looking is her first foal and she had a colt by Supremacy in 2023 bought in Book 1 by Karl, Kelly, Lucy Burke for 220,00gns.

"She has been bought to race on," said Ted Durcan after buying Abstract (Wootton Bassett) for 340,000gns, adding: "She is for Scott Heider, I don't know yet whether she will stay in Europe or go to the US."
Abstract has finished fourth twice in Listed races in France since the catalogue was published, and Durcan said: "She is very close to getting black-type, and if she could get her head in front she will be a valuable prospect – and a sounder surface might suit. We had that sort of price on her, in this market you have to be prepared to pay a premium, and Scott loves his racing."
Abstract is out of Ambivalence (Invincible Spirit), a daughter of the Group 3-placed Alpine Snow (Verglas) and from the extended family of Urban Sea.

"She was 450,000gns as a foal which says how good-looking she is, she in-foal on an early cover to Farhh, which has some scarcity value and I think he is a very good sire, and the foal she is carrying, if all is well, could be an October Book 1-type of horse."

Tattersalls December Foal Sale
Chairman's Statement
"References to ‘the cream of the British and Irish foal crops’ have been made constantly throughout this week’s record-breaking Tattersalls December Foal Sale and the extraordinary figures show the esteem in which the best British and Irish thoroughbreds continue to be held and where ’the cream' is to be found.
"All week Park Paddocks has been alive with pinhookers from Britain, Ireland and further afield; a combination of veterans who have been plying their trade for many years and hordes of the younger generation whose enthusiasm and commitment provide encouragement to the wider industry looking forward.
“Equally notable has been the immense contribution made by owners buying to race. The December Foal Sale will always be dominated by pinhookers, but owners, both domestic and international, have made a huge impact on the sale, particularly those from Australia, China, Japan and the USA, as well as from throughout Europe and the Gulf region.
“Between them all they have contributed to a Tattersalls December Foal Sale which will be remembered for a very long time, not only for Whitsbury Manor Stud's outstanding 2,500,000gns FRANKEL filly foal out of SUELITA, who equalled the 27-year European record price for a foal, but also for a sale which produced an unprecedented number of foals selling for 500,000gns or more, wide margin records across the board for average, median and turnover and a massive 32 of the 40 highest-priced foals to have been sold in Britain and Ireland this year.
“The confidence that the leading British and Irish breeders show in the uniquely diverse market at Tattersalls is a source of immense pride and it would be no exaggeration to say that so much of the strength of this week’s foal trade, as well as the record-breaking December Yearling Sale, has been driven by the game-changing Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale a few weeks ago.
"Those three days of yearlings have driven the European bloodstock market ever since and to see so many British and Irish breeders and consignors subsequently reaping richly deserved rewards has itself been truly rewarding.
“Not all in the garden has, however, been rosy and the lowest tier of the market continues to struggle which is a concern, but as we move on to the market leading Tattersalls December Mares Sale we can reflect on another 2024 Tattersalls sale which has exceeded expectations and again shone a positive light on the industry."

"He is for resale," said Stauffenberg from outside the ring. "He is a very good walker, he is by a young stallion who we don't know yet but who we can give a chance to, and, of the foals we have seen today, we thought that he is the one who stood out based on his action, really.
"We just have to hope for the best now, but I think he will be a proper, commercial October Book 2 horse," added Stauffenberg, continuing: "I have bought three now, and I have been underbidder a number of times, it has been tough to buy."
Patrick Smalley, who has been showing the colt this week for consignor Jamie Railton and breeder Manor Farm Bloodstock, said from outside the colt's box: "He has been really easy to do, straightforward and a great little horse. He has been busy, lots of pepole liked him, he has had lots of vets and has dealt with it all really well."
Kevin Tobin, with a few years' sales experience on Smalley and who took over for the sale ring, added: "The colt came really well prepped and has been a pleasure to handle."
After selling the following colt by Stradivarius (Lot
1179), also bred by Craig and Laura Buckingham of Manor Farm Bloodstock, Jamie Railton said: "I am really pleased for Craig and Laura, they are great enthusiasts and they have not been doing this for too long, but produced the colt really well. They have had a winner this week, too, so it has been a good few days for them."

He will come back to Tweenhills now and then will be sold by the boys from Hillwood Stud next year."
Harry added: "He is a stand out for us today, a lovely big strong colt, and is an athletic mover. Oliver and I went down this morning to see him without Dad, and we picked him out. We went back with Dad he liked him, too."
"Perfect Power was an amazing racehorse, the dam is three from three so hopefully he will be a good horse, as well," said Oliver of the colt, a first pinhooking venture for the boys and probably not the last.
"We have been with Dad a few times to the sales now, but this is the first time we have actually bought one," explained Harry. "It is some buzz, when the board gets higher and higher it just gets more and more exciting."

Lot 1035:
Joe Callan signs for Whitsbury Manor Stud for this colt by Showcasing at 55,000gns, sold by Josh Cameron and his partner Annie from Daymark Stud.
"He is a gorgeous colt, we really liked him, there is a lot happening in the family, the first two foals out of the mare have gone to great homes, Daymark does a wonderful job and we are delighted to buy him and looking forward to bringing him back here next year," said Callan.
The first two out of the mare have sold as both foals and yearlings, and three out of the four sale transactions have been for a six-figure sum, with this colt's 2023 full-sister bought by Al Shaqab / Amo Racing for 340,000gns in this year's October Book 1 Sale.
Of yesterday's outstanding sale for Whitsbury, Callan reflected: "It was a sensational day, we brought a fantastic draft of foals, and days like that don't come around very often. It was very special, and it is credit to the whole team. It has been over 50 years in the making for the Harper family, it is a great result for everyone. It was just amazing to have the chance to be a part of it."
