Ballybreen offered plenty of encouragement with his fourth placed debut effort at Dungarvan in January behind Pragmatic (Sold 82,000 to WP Mullins/H Kirk Cheltenham February).. The son of Gold Well made his next start a winning one when he took the five-year-old geldings’ maiden at Ballyarthur. The Donnchadh Doyle-trained gelding disputed the running for much of the race where he was challenged strongly at the penultimate fence but displayed a game attitude to stay on best of his rivals to secure a two length win on what was very testing ground conditions. Ballybreen is out of a prolific track winning family which includes the Grade one placed Father Matt, as well as Winter Squall and Gill’s Honey to name just a few. This improving gelding looks set to further add to this winning family when he makes his progression to park racing.
